When her mother was killed in a car crash, kind-hearted high school student Tohru Honda decides to live with her grandfather. However, renovations have to be made on the house when Tohru's aunt and uncle were to move in. Tohru, not wanting to cause her grandfather anymore trouble than she already had, moves into the woods, living in a tent and supporting herself. That is, until Tohru finds out where the popular "Prince" Yuki Sohma and his cousins Shigure and Kyo live and go stay with them. However, the Sohmas live with a curse. Twelve members of the family (not including Kyo, who is the cat) are possessed by spirits of the Chinese zodiac and turn into their zodiac animal when they are weak, under stress, or when hugged by someone of the opposite gender who is not a member of the zodiac. When Tohru discovers the Sohmas' secret, she promises not to tell and is allowed to keep living with them. During her time with them, there are hilarious adventures and bumps along the way as she learns more of the curse.
